Hi! My name is Jessica Jelke, and I am currently a second-year student at UW (well, for now, at My Bedroom in Niles, Illinois). I’m planning to double-major in physics and astronomy largely due to the influence of my supportive father and his contagious love for space. In ten years, you’ll catch me making headlines at NASA for successfully landing humans on Mars and for my impressive astrophysics research, but in the meantime, you can find me training with my UW teammates at Emerald City Boxing Gym. As a female boxer and a woman in STEM, I’m proud to say that I don’t let gender stereotypes limit the pursuit of my passions, and I hope to inspire other young girls to have the confidence and determination that will allow them to overcome any setbacks they may face. Besides taking classes, I spend most of my time working two part-time jobs, but I also love weightlifting, cooking healthy recipes, and watching every episode of Rick and Morty on repeat.
