Some familiarity with the basic vocabulary of the field is required and most participants have been post-doctoral trainees. The course is generally geared towards those with a doctoral level degree or those in process of completing a doctoral level degree. It not generally appropriate for those without at least a graduate\/master\u2019s level of education or less. The course is intended for early career research professionals, and isn\u2019t appropriate for laboratory technicians or for those whose primary focus is program management, community engagement or patient care. The course is taught in English and thus attendees should be comfortable comprehending written and spoken English. Specifically, the following persons would benefit from this course:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>MDs in research fellowship programs, particularly in infectious diseases<\/li>\n<li>PhDs or pre-doctoral candidates interested in the biology, epidemiology, behavioral or health services aspects of\u00a0STD\/HIV<\/li>\n<li>Public health officials (US and international) involved in\u00a0STD\/HIV research<\/li>\n<li>Junior faculty with research interest in\u00a0STD\/HIV<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The course is open to University of Washington students for academic course credit as well as students and professionals from other organizations and institutions.
