Professional Interests
My professional interests include supporting student development and leadership through intentional engagement and reflection. The university’s residential setting provides students with the opportunity to consider a multitude of perspectives, and work on shaping their own perspective – which I enjoy assisting them to navigate.
One thing you like about working and/or living in Seattle
The scenery is awe-inspiring, and the city is environmentally-conscious. Additionally, there are several options for commuting – which is particularly great for someone who is new to the city and is eager to explore.

The students are driven and their desire for development is apparent in the way they engage with challenges.
Collaboration
One of the things that I enjoy most about HFS is the emphasis on collaboration between colleagues, work groups and other departments. Through our committee work, we work closely with individuals at all levels within HFS which provides me with unique insights and new perspectives. I also have had the opportunity to collaborate with campus partners who often work with residents to provide the best experience possible.
Claire
I especially in issues with gender and masculinity in western society. My goal is to have an equal work environment non-gender bias.
Supervision
Supervising the student leader team is a consistent highlight of my role. I appreciate the opportunity to help them maximize their strengths and find ways to bring their hopes for the building community to fruition. I see every meeting as a developmental opportunity, and get to have real impact on an individual and team level.
Intentionality & Proficiency
Intentionality guides much of the work we do in HFS. Everyone is encouraged to consider the why behind an action and to think about how it aligns with our goals and missions. Proficiency is the ability for us as professionals to ensure we have the skill set to succeed in meeting those goals. We are provided ample resources to develop our proficiency and can trust that we will receive feedback to help us identify areas for growth.
Work/Life Balance
Living where you work offers some unique dynamics, but I feel comfortable in my ability to make time for other interests outside of the work I do as part of this team. I am able to be a resource to students, be intentional in the work I do to support them, and collaborate with my team without having to sacrifice personal endeavors.
Crisis Management
The Resident Director On-Call rotation has allowed me to develop a high level of proficiency in crisis management. Our training, shadowing, and on-call structure provided me with the support throughout my on-call shifts to know that I had an immense amount of resources and people to consult. This department also puts a lot of trust in their staff to make informed decisions. The combination of trust as well as resources allows me to feel very prepared for every on-call night or weekend.
Conduct
Leading conduct meetings with residents is one of the main ways I can interact with students one on one and get insights into their experiences living within our communities. Although policy violations do take place, each conversation I have with students are pivotal growth opportunities for me as a professional to strengthen best practices such as Motivational Interviewing.
Building Management
The skills I have developed while managing new and legacy buildings have been invaluable. I have been able to work closely with our Facilities colleagues and gather an intimate understanding of the buildings’ functions and systems. I feel very fortunate that HFS works in a collaborative philosophy across its units. I work closely with custodial teams, emergency management, maintenance specialists, and dining colleagues to find solutions for our students.
Advising
In my role, I support my Associate Hall Director (AHD) in advising Hall Council to create meaningful opportunities for student engagement and advocacy. Hall Council provides one avenue for our motivated student population to host meaningful programs and advocate for change in our buildings. It has been a joy to support my AHD in developing these student leaders and amplifying their voices within HFS!
