Can you become the Master Manipulator?

Instructions:

  • The Master Manipulator will click on a Purple card with an incomplete headline to select it for the round
  • The rest of the players must decide which of the White cards allocated to them best fill in the headline
  • It’s then up to the Master Manipulator to choose who they think has created the most misleading headline!
  • Players can make their case—remember to leverage the common misinformation tactics in your headlines and explain to the Master Manipulator why people would fall for your persuasive tricks!
  • The Master Manipulator awards points by clicking on the White card(s) they deem to be the most manipulative

Round One

Round Two

For Round Two, you’re working as a team! Instead of being a “Master Manipulator”, you’ll work together to identify the tactics used by the headline and pick an appropriate “prebunk” to engage in productive conversation.

Instructions:

  • Read through all the cards to get a sense of what cards might go together!
  • The team will pick a purple headline they want to debunk
  • Pick the white tactic card you think the headline best utilizes
  • Finally, decide on a grey “grounding truth”
  • Discuss all the three together - do they provide a compelling, non-antagonistic route to engaging with misleading or non-factual information?
  • Once you’ve decided, click “Submit” to see if you’ve successfully debunked the headline!
