Confidentiality

From the moment you initiate contact with Student Legal Services (SLS), whether by phone or in-person, your communications with our office are confidential. Client confidentiality is at the core of the attorney-client relationship. This applies even if your relationship with SLS ends after a phone call or consultation. SLS cannot release information about you except with your written permission or in extremely limited situations. If you have questions about client confidentiality, please discuss them with SLS staff at the consultation.

Note to Parents and Relatives of UW Students

Are you the parent or relative of a UW student? Your student may schedule an appointment with SLS by filling out an intake form. Because of attorney-client confidentiality and privilege issues, students may not bring another person, including a parent, to the appointment. (SLS policy does not prevent students from sharing information with their parents if they wish.)
