SMEA graduates pursue jobs in many different parts of the country and world, mostly in the public sector and non-profit organizations, but also with industry, consulting firms, and in academia.     A tip for those of you looking for a job with an environmental non-profit in the Northwest: look under “Program Priorities” on the Bullit Foundation’s web site to find a list of environmental organizations that have received funding in the last few years. You can also search the Brainerd Foundation and the Russell Family Foundation web sites for grantee information, too.

  • Natural Resources Consultants
    Provides fishery-related products and services to industry and governmental agencies world-wide. Headquartered at Fishermen’s Terminal in Seattle.
  • Ocean Associates 
    Provides marine science and policy services to U.S. federal agencies throughout the U.S. and its territories.
  • Parametrix
    Employee-owned engineering, environmental sciences, and architectural consulting firm based in Washington State, with seven offices in Washington and Oregon.
  • Vigor Industries
    Shipbuilding, ship repair, and other industrial services in the Pacific Northwest (includes the former Todd Pacific Shipyards).

  • Battelle
    Battelle provides science and technology solutions for government and commercial customers worldwide and manages three national laboratories for the U.S. Department of Energy. Headquarters in Columbus, Ohio with offices throughout the United States.
  • Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
    PNL is operated by Battelle for the U.S. Department of Energy. They deliver environmental science and technology services. Main office is in Richland, Washington.
  • Washington Sea Grant
    Serves communities, industries and the people of Washington state, the Pacific Northwest and the nation through research, education and outreach in marine issues. They are part of a Sea Grant network administered by NOAA. Their offices are located directly across the street from SMEA and their director, Penny Dalton, is an Affiliate Associate Professor with SMEA.

AAPA represents more than 150 public port authorities in the United States, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean and over 300 sustaining and associate members, firms and individuals with an interest in seaports of the Western Hemisphere.
