About

About this Website

Each year the School of Art + Art History + Design proudly celebrates graduating Art and Design students — both undergraduate and graduate — with a series of exhibitions at the Jacob Lawrence Gallery and the Henry Art Gallery. This year is different in many ways, so we are sharing this work via three distinct websites. Our students have worked for years towards their degrees and have persevered in the midst of a pandemic as well as the social upheaval brought about by the killing of George Floyd and the resulting demands to address pervasive and violent racism after centuries of neglect.

In this showcase, the School presents the culminating thesis work of its graduating graduate students in Art, Art History, and Design who are receiving Master of Fine Arts (MFA), Master of Arts (MA), and Master of Design (MDes) degrees. Their research covers a wide range of styles, mediums, and topics.

We invite you to visit our two other sites: a world becoming with, featuring the work of students graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Art, and the Design Show, featuring work by graduating Bachelor of Design (BDes) students in Industrial Design, Interaction Design, and Visual Communication Design.

Work on this website was done by School of Art + Art History + Design staff members, primarily Merith Bennett with assistance from Jeanette Mills.

About the School

The School of Art + Art History + Design is the center for creative innovation and study at the University of Washington, one of the world’s leading public research institutions. The School’s commitment to diversity extends to the recruitment of faculty, staff, and students who exhibit a dedication to creative and academic excellence and who demonstrate the ability to work with a diverse spectrum of populations. The School’s focus on interdisciplinary collaboration and the development of new practices enhances both studio and classroom learning as well as fostering dynamic engagement and critical discourse. Our students are inspired to learn through a rigorous and creative academic experience, competitive internships, and international opportunities. Learning from influential faculty, alumni, visiting artists, designers, and scholars, students of our undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs investigate and create in an environment of possibility.
