Mr. Peeper is Here!

by jcmills on April 21st, 2011

The first Blaauw kiln in the Pacific Northwest was installed at 3D4M in March 2011, and it was immediately christened Mr. Peeper. Purchase of the kiln was funded by a UW Student Technology Fee grant. Gerard Blaauw and his son, Rick, installed and tested the kiln with support from faculty, staff, and graduate students. Blaauw Products, based in the Netherlands, builds kilns that use 60% less energy than traditional kilns, which both saves money on energy bills and reduces carbon emissions. The new 3D4M kiln was custom-built, and its burner system is completely computer controlled. The kiln can fire objects up to 5’11” tall by 4’11” wide by 3’7″ deep.
