Case #3 -
A 15 month old baby with a 2 cm protrusion at the umbilicus

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
1.) What is the cause of this hernia in children? In adults?

  • Children: congenital failure of closure of umbilical ring.

  • Adults: an acquired defect. Common precursors are repeated pregnancies, obesity, and ascites.
