BILIARY TRACT
Case #1 -
A 40 year old lady, with R-sided abdominal pain

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
8.) What are options for management of cholelithiasis?

Options for management of symptomatic gallstones:

Oral chenodeoxycholic acid for 2 years results in 13% resolution of stones.

Lithotripsy: bile flow inadequate to clear fragments and new stones form.

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy with selective intraoperative cholangiogram (jaundice, dilated common duct, biliary pancreatitis). This is treatment of choice.

If stones are asymptomatic, the patient may be observed.
