6.) What is the treatment of pyogenic hepatic abscess?

Treatment of hepatic pyogenic abscess:

  • Antibiotics IV for 2 weeks and then orally for one month.



  • Drainage

    • Percutaneous drainage successful about 80% of the time

    • Surgical drainage - transabdominal or transthoracic

    • Resection for multiple abscesses confined to one lobe


  • Treat primary pathology
