COLORECTAL DISEASE
Case #3 -
A 75 year old with lower abdominal pain and distension

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
11.) What procedure would you do in the emergent setting with unprepped bowel?

The management of colon cancer presenting with acute obstruction and unprepared bowel is resection of the cancer and proximal end colostomy with Hartman's pouch or mucous fistula. If the bowel is perforated with severe contamination and patient is very ill, nonviable bowel should be removed and diverting colostomy only performed.
