Steps in diagnosing the lesion:
- Tissue diagnosis:
- FNA for cytology
- Core biopsy or surgical biopsy
- Imaging:
- Mammography: characteristics of carcinoma include spiculated margins or microcalcifications
- Sonography: cystic versus solid. Malignant lesions usually have irregular margins.
