Steps in diagnosing the lesion:


  • Tissue diagnosis:



    • FNA for cytology

    • Core biopsy or surgical biopsy


  • Imaging:


    • Mammography: characteristics of carcinoma include spiculated margins or microcalcifications

    • Sonography: cystic versus solid. Malignant lesions usually have irregular margins.
