BREAST DISEASE
Case #5 -
A 48 year old woman with a L breast lump

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
9.) What is the sentinel node biopsy and why is it important and useful?

The sentinel lymph node is the first node in the axilla to receive drainage from the breast. This node can be identified by peritumoral or subareolar injection of radioisotope or dye. If the sentinel node is negative for metastatic tumor, the axilla can be considered negative.
