4.) What diagnostic workup should you do?

Diagnostic evaluation:
- Laboratory:
- TSH - suppressed
- Free T4 - elevated
- Thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin - stimulates the TSH receptor and is present in Graves' disease
- Radioactive iodine scan - possible findings:
- Increased diffuse uptake in Graves' disease
- Multiple nodules with varying uptake in Plummers disease
- Solitary hot nodule with remainder of gland suppressed
- Thyroiditis with decreased uptake
