4.) What are the various regulators of calcium metabolism in the body and how do they work?
|
Regulators of the body's calcium metabolism:
- Parathyroid Hormone (PTH): stimulates reabsorption of calcium from bone
calcium reabsorption, promotes renal phosphate clearance, promotes 1,25 Vitamin D synthesis
- Calcitonin: decreases reabsorption of calcium from bone
- Vitamin D: promotes GI absorption of calcium
- Calcitriol (formed in the kidney on stimulation by PTH): promotes calcium absorption from the GI tract
