Case #2 -
A newborn with excessive drooling

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
6.) If this patient has the most common form of atresia and fistula, what is the operative management?

The surgical procedure for the most common type of abnormality involves a right thoracotomy. The distal esophagus is separated from the trachea and the hole in the trachea is securely closed. Then a primary anastomosis is performed between the proximal and distal segments of the esophagus.
