VASCULAR SURGERY
Case #10 -
64 year old female with abdominal pain for 3 hours.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
5.) What imaging studies should be done?

Imaging studies:

  • Doppler ultrasound may be useful in the face of suspected chronic

ischemia as a screening test but not indicated in the acute situation

  • CT scan may rule out other diagnoses as well as aid in correct

    diagnosis.

  • The arteriogram is definitive but will delay laparotomy in the face of

frank peritonitis. If there is doubt regarding occlusive disease, then this is

indicated and therapy may be instituted for nonocclusive ischemia if

    infarction has not yet occurred.
