DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
6.) What are the causes of acute mesenteric ischemia?

Causes of acute mesenteric ischemia: acute mesenteric thrombus (usually in

presence of atherosclerotic lesion); acute embolus ( source such as cardiac);

nonocclusive mesenteric arterial ischemia (as in decreased cardiac output due to congestive heart failure on digoxin and as in cocaine overdose with spasm);

acute mesenteric venous thrombosis (usually longer duration of symptoms prior

to presentation).
