A 28 year old man sustained a gunshot wound

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
7.) In which patients is this syndrome more likely to develop?

This syndrome occurs in the setting of high volume resuscitation such as multiple trauma, thermal burns, retroperitoneal injury or inflammation, or extensive surgery related to the retroperitoneum. Primary abdominal compartment syndrome occurs after direct injury to intraperitoneal or retroperitoneal structures whereas the secondary abdominal compartment syndrome occurs after large volume resuscitation without direct injury to abdominal structures.
