DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

The following points are important in considering the relationship of cholelithiasis to carcinoma of the gallbladder:
a. In gallbladder cancer patients, 80% have stones
b. If cholelithiasis is present, the risk of carcinoma increases, especially if the gallstone is large
c. Though risk is increased, the absolute risk of carcinoma in cholelithiasis is only 0.5-1.0 %.
d. Perhaps factors which predispose to stones also predispose to carcinoma
