VASCULAR SURGERY
Case #11 -
A 48 year old woman presented with edema of the left lower leg

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
4.) What are the usual characteristics of a venous stasis ulcer? How is this different from an ischemic ulcer or an ulcer in a diabetic patient?

The venous stasis ulcer is located in the lower third of the leg, usually medially near the ankle. It may be associated with mild pain relieved by elevation. The ulcer is shallow with irregular borders and a granulating base. There is venous oozing with manipulation. Edema, pigmentation, and stasis dermatitis may also be seen.
