Case #4 -
A 64 year old with elevated prostate specific antigen (PSA) value

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
11.) What are treatment options for palliation and when should these be considered?

For advanced disease, hormonal treatment is the mainstay of palliative treatment. This therapy may include bilateral orchiectomy, gonadotropin releasing hormone agonist, and a drug to block adrenal androgen. Results with chemotherapy are poor.
Hormonal treatment may sometimes be used as neoadjuvant therapy prior to surgery or radiation.
