A man, aged 70, with a long history of esophageal dysmotility.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
8.) What is the management of a primary lung abscess?

Management of primary lung abscess:

  1. Antibiotics appropriate to cause and culture specific

  2. Drainage usually spontaneous via tracheobronchial tree, would require bronchoscopic and/or chest percussion and postural drainage

  3. Surgical drainage indicated if medical therapy fails
