PARTNERS
Teen
Futures Media Network, UW, is collaborating with the American Lung
Association and American Cancer Association on the American Legacy
Grant. Here's what our partners are doing in relation to the ALF
grant. For additional information, visit their Web sites or contact
their Washington State chapters.
American
Lung Association
The American Lung Association (ALA) is working to foster youth empowerment
through our Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU) Program. ALA is focusing
on training, implementation, evaluation, follow-up and mini-grant
funding for TATU adult facilitators and TATU youth statewide.
American
Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society Speak Out! Youth Initiative provides
youth, and the adults who support them, with training and opportunities
to influence real-world issues that make a difference in saving
lives. Youth who have big ideas, want to kick tobacco to the curb,
want their voices heard, want training or to train others, and meet
like minded peers are Speak Out! youth. Speak Out! youth are in
your community making a difference through putting on local activities,
serving on leadership teams, starting youth coalitions and getting
the word out there that Speak Out! is where it is at! No membership
cards needed -- just your ideas, innovation and action.
What are youth involved
in Speak Out! up to?
Camp Speak Out!
An annual youth advocacy leadership training where Camp participants,
ages 14-18, learn how to mobilize their peers and communities around
the issues of tobacco prevention and school health advocacy in a
fun and interactive environment!
Youth Action Network
The Youth Action Network provides the opportunity for youth and
adults in Alaska, Montana, Oregon, and Washington to exchange ideas
and resources, to receive invites to local events, and to take part
in additional training opportunities.
Community Advocacy Activities
Community advocacy activities provide meaningful opportunities for
youth to engage their communities in the fight against cancer. The
Youth Initiative Workshop is one example. These workshops are a
new planning guide and tool kit which focus on assisting both youth
leaders and their adult partners to build strong youth coalitions
for tobacco prevention and advocacy. Youth who participate in these
workshops will be eligible to receive grants that will allow them
to transform innovative ideas into action.
