Who are my Biological Parents?
It is good to try and find the adopted persons biological parents. Knowing
information about them can help the adopted person learn about your heritage
and genetic health. (Finding
Biological Parents)
This information can possibly save the adopted person’s life in
the future. It may be difficult though, especially if the adoptee does
not know a lot of information about their biological parents. Sometimes
it can be easier to find them when they may be in search of the child
they put up for adoption in return. Depending on whether the adoptee’s
adoption type is open or closed will have an effect on finding your biological
parents. If you are in an open adoption, the adoption agency will have
the information on their parents, such as address name and other specifics.
If the adoptee was possibly adopted through a closed adoption, the biological
parents do not share their personal information such as their last name,
social security number, or address.
To make a start at finding the adopted person’s biological parents,
a good thing to do would be to search the internet for websites that are
made to reunite families together. The adoptee should register their information
on several of these sites. Each website registry will increase the chances
of possibly finding the adoptee’s biological parents. It would be
a plus to register as much information that the adoptee has as possible,
which would narrow down their searches. Other resources of help to lead
the adopted person to their biological parents would be searching people-finding
databases and public records. Keep in mind that many sites have various
limitations on searching for biological parents. Some may want money up
front for searches and others may want you to be a certain age.
