Sevim Başoğlu

About Sevim

Sevim was born in Mardin and moved to İstanbul in 1945 with his family around age 6. He attended Robert College in İstanbul and graduated with a degree in engineering in 1964. He then came to the U.S. to attend Colorado State University and earn his Master’s. He went to Seattle to work for Boeing in 1964 and worked there until retiring a few years ago. He has raised his two children to speak some Turkish at home and is a practicing Christian. He is one of the founders of the Turkish American Cultural Association of Washington and helped to organize many events over the years. He had a smooth transition to the U.S. and has found it important to continue Turkish culture and traditions in Seattle.
