About Gaye

Gaye Tuzemen Berk was born in 1972 and raised in Izmir, Turkey, to a family and community that held relatively progressive views. She moved to the U.S. at the age of 26 after completing her education in computer technology and programming. Initially a developer in Istanbul, she transitioned into sales engineering due to language barriers in the US. Gaye's career in recruiting in Seattle started with a focus on technical roles due to her background. She highlights the inclusiveness of Seattle's community, noting the absence of resistance to foreign cultures and languages; due to this inclusivity, her social circle expanded to include not only Turkish immigrants but also friends from diverse backgrounds.Gaye maintains her Turkish language and culture while embracing her life in the U.S; identifying as a hybrid of Turkish and American and hoping to one day be able to split her time between the two.
