About Fatma

Fatma Sahin was born in Ankara in 1969 and grew up in both Ankara and Elazig. She attended Middle East Technical University and received her Bachelor’s of Science in Aeronautical Engineering. She worked for two years at TUrkish Aerospace Industries in Ankara, Turkey. She met her husband in Eskisehir who was on an internship from the Bank of Holland, and they decided to get married. She left for the Netherlands where she worked as a structural engineer at Fokker Aircraft BV in Amsterdam for five years. After obtaining her citizenship and finishing up work in the Netherlands, she came to the United States in 1997 to work for Boeing. After settling down in the PNW area and starting a family, she joined various organizations and became an active member of the Turkish community. She is a TACAWA member and has filled various roles since 1997 including being an executive board member, newsletter focal and a member of the steering committee for International Children’s Friendship Festival. She finds it very important for her family to be a part of the Turkish community in the United States and in Turkey, and brings her family to Turkey every year.
