About Canan

Canan was born in Istanbul in 1957 and attended both high school and university in Istanbul. She received her Bachelor’s in metallurgical engineering at Istanbul Technical University where she met her husband. Both moved to Philadelphia in 1977 for educational purposes, and then to Seattle after Canan received a scholarship. She was then able to complete her masters and ph.D in metallurgy and material science at the University of Washington. While receiving her degree she and her husband decided to settle down and start a family in Seattle. She is forever grateful for her move across the world, and voices how happy she is being in both countries. She visits often and over the years has involved herself in many TACA events in Seattle as a volunteer.
