About Nevin

Nevin was born in Sivas, Turkey and spent most of her childhood living in Ankara. After meeting her husband, who lived in the United States, she moved with him to Bellevue in 1982 and has lived there ever since. She found the transition to American life difficult but found herself able to adapt to a new lifestyle quickly. She found it important to teach her daughter Turkish culture and language, and they visit Turkey every summer to see friends and family. She was actively involved in TACAWA for 13 years, often volunteering and even acting as the social chairman for a few years. She speaks Turkish with her daughter at home and finds it easy to keep up with new Turkish words. She appreciates both Turkish and American life and finds it important to value aspects of both cultures.
