Professor
Braden Mechley
professor
Mechley taught us about Etymology. Etymology is the study of the origin of
words. Professor Mechley informed us that most English words today come from Greek
and Latin. He convinced us that knowing the etymological meaning of Greek and
Latin prefixes and suffixes would enable us to know the meaning of long and strange
English words. For example, the word "encephalogram", can you guess the
meaning of the word? Let's begin! "en" is in
"cephalo" is head and "gram" is picture. So
the literal meaning would be picture in the head, or in contemporary language, an X-ray of
the head. Now you are able to take the SAT and get a really good score on the verbal
section.
Professor Mechley also taught us about Tragic Dramas. The dramas that we read was Oedipus, Hippolytus and Medea. It was fun reading.
