In this class we will study Latin word elements as they are used in modern English. We will focus, especially, upon the Latin elements that lend form and meaning to the unusual and sophisticated terms used by participants in modern universities and by other intellectuals of all sorts and backgrounds.
Some of the class activities and requirements include discussion of the etymological history and present-day somatic function of Latin word elements( in together words, how these elements contribute meaning to English words today. These words will focus upon how these roots are used in modern academic vocabulary. Participation in discussions will be graded.
