Embracing Differences:
Inclusion Strategies for General Education Classrooms

Increasingly, students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are being included in general education classrooms. Classroom teachers and support personnel would benefit from additional information and support for this population. This workshop focuses on how to help individuals with ASD be successful in general education classrooms.

In this workshop, participants will learn:
– How to use students’ interests as motivators and reinforcers for participation and work completion
– Strategies for effective communication
– How to use routines and visual supports to increase independence
– How to modify academic material while still meeting learning objectives
– Effective accommodations

Clock hours for certificated school staff available for an additional fee.

Who should attend: Educators, providers, and parents of individuals with ASD in grades K-12.

Content level: Beginner

Goal-Writing Workshops

These workshops are designed to provide a collaborative space for professionals in school and clinic settings to work through writing goals for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).  Groups will be led by a specialist with extensive clinical experience with children with ASD, rotating between a speech-language pathologist, ABA provider, and psychologist.  Professionals are encouraged to attend as a team to develop goals collaboratively.  Individuals are also welcome to attend.  Attendees should have a current clinical caseload and will bring questions to the workshop about writing appropriate, functional, measurable goals for their students.

Clock hours for certificated school staff available for an additional fee.

Who should attend: Educators and professionals working with individuals with ASD of all grades levels.

Content level: Beginner to Intermediate

Cost: $85 per person

Cancellation Policy:
Cancellations received at least two business weeks prior to course start date are eligible to receive a full refund less a $20 administrative fee. Cancellations must be received in writing by e-mail, fax, or U.S. mail prior to the stated deadline. Cancellations received after the stated deadline will forfeit the full registration fee. Refunds will not be available for registrants who choose not to attend a class. UW Autism Center reserves the right to cancel a course due to low enrollment, inclement weather, or other circumstances that would make the course non-viable. If UW Autism Center cancels a course, registrants will be notified within 24 hours of the first class date and offered a full refund or the option to transfer registration to another course.
