Gunderson Distinguished Career Contribution Award<\/h3>\n<p>Marsha Linehan is the recipient of the <strong>2021 John G. Gunderson Distinguished Career Contribution Award<\/strong>.\u00a0 The award announcement was made in October 2021 at the ISSPD Congress in Oslo, Norway.<\/p>\n<p>In her tribute to Marsha, \u00a0Shelley McMain PhD, Head of the Borderline Personality Clinic at \u00a0the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, says, \u201cMarsha Linehan truly is a woman amongst the greatest minds in the field of mental health and the field of psychotherapy. For almost 50 years she has maintained a profound commitment to advancing research in the field of personality disorders and suicidal behavior. Her inspiring personal vision to improve the lives of others, coupled with her determined curiosity and her brilliance and her scholarly methods, have helped to set the foundation for DBT to become one of the most important evidence-based therapies developed in the past century.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Marsha Linehan Recipient of 2017 Grawemeyer Award for Psychology<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Marsha was selected for the 17th prize. Her award-winning idea is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which balances acceptance and commitment to change in treating mental illness, distinguishing it from previous standard interventions. Research has shown DBT to be effective for conditions previously considered untreatable, such as borderline personality disorder, which is characterized by impulsivity, interpersonal problems, and self-destructive urges. <a href=\"http:\/\/grawemeyer.org\/psychology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Read more \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Marsha Linehan Recipient of 2016 Career\/Lifetime Achievement Award from ABCT<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Marsha has received the\u00a0Career\/Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Behavioral &amp; Cognitive Therapies (ABCT)! This is the highest award given by ABCT and honors those who have made significant contributions over a number of years to cognitive and\/or behavior therapy.\u00a0Marsha joins the ranks of other notables such as Al Bandura, Aaron Beck, Albert Ellis, Gerry Davison, Alan Marlatt and Edna Foa. The APS James McKeen Cattell Fellow Award recognizes APS Members for a lifetime of outstanding contributions to the area of applied psychological research.
