Human Resources Assistant
Washington West African Center (WAWAC)
The Washington West African Center (WAWAC) is actively seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Human Resources (HR) Assistant to join our growing team. This key role supports the administrative and operational functions of our HR department, ensuring a positive and supportive experience for staff, interns, and volunteers. Working closely under the supervision of the Executive Director and in collaboration with department leads, the HR Assistant plays a critical part in upholding WAWAC’s commitment to equity, transparency, and a thriving workplace culture. The ideal candidate is highly organized, people-centered, and committed to supporting the well-being of a diverse team. As HR Assistant, you will provide support across various areas of human resources—from onboarding and records management to staff communications and HR policy implementation.
Key Responsibilities:
● Administrative Support: Maintain and organize personnel records, assist with scheduling
interviews, onboarding new hires, and tracking staff documentation such as certifications,
evaluations, and timesheets.
● Onboarding and Offboarding: Coordinate new hire onboarding processes including welcome
packets, orientation scheduling, confidentiality agreements, and introductions to team culture
and procedures.
● Staff Support: Serve as a friendly and confidential point of contact for staff and volunteers
seeking HR-related assistance, including workplace concerns, time off requests, and policy
questions.
● HR Compliance: Assist in tracking compliance with HR policies and procedures, helping ensure
the organization aligns with federal, state, and internal requirements.
● Event & Meeting Support: Help coordinate HR-related training, staff appreciation events, and
team-building activities. Take notes and follow up on action items from HR and senior
management meetings.
● Communications: Support internal communication efforts by drafting HR announcements,
updates, and newsletters that foster a positive and informed workplace environment.
● Policy & Process Improvement: Assist the Executive Director in reviewing and improving HR
practices, including gathering feedback from staff and participating in updates to the staff
handbook.
● Confidentiality & Ethics: Uphold high standards of confidentiality, fairness, and professionalism
when handling sensitive staff information.
● Other Duties: Assist with additional administrative or HR-related tasks as needed to support the
success of the organization and its team members.

By helping to cultivate a supportive and inclusive workplace, you ensure that staff and volunteers are well-equipped to deliver meaningful programs that bring together youth, adults, and seniors in a welcoming environment. Through thoughtful coordination, staff support, and HR systems management, you help maintain a safe, respectful space where team members can thrive—ultimately fostering a deeper sense of community, shared purpose, and collective responsibility.
WAWAC is Monday-Friday usually 9am-5pm, After-school program Lynnwood (Wed/Fri 4:30pm-7:00pm), After-school program Federal Way (Tues/Fri 4:30pm-6:30pm). Additionally there are weekend events sometimes Saturdays which are optional for any UW students if they’re available.
The prime location for planning and implementation of all events shall be at the following address: Washington West African Center, 19203 36th Ave W SUITE 210, Lynnwood, WA 98036. However, where a certain program requires it, a more ideal location shall be sourced. Location There are opportunities both at the Lynwood hub as well as at a new after-school youth program in Renton.
