Volunteer Coordinator Assistant
Washington West African Center (WAWAC)
The Washington West African Center (WAWAC) is actively seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Volunteer Coordinator Assistant to support our expanding team. This vital role helps manage the day-to-day coordination of our volunteer program, ensuring an engaging and supportive experience for all WAWAC volunteers. Working closely with the Volunteer Coordinator and under the guidance of the Executive Director, you will help strengthen WAWAC’s community impact through the effective organization and support of our volunteer efforts. The ideal candidate is organized, community-oriented, and committed to fostering positive volunteer experiences in a culturally responsive environment. As Volunteer Coordinator Assistant, you will provide support in areas such as volunteer recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, recognition, and communication.

Key Responsibilities:
● Volunteer Management Support: Assist with maintaining up-to-date volunteer records,
scheduling shifts, and tracking attendance and hours. Help coordinate volunteer assignments
across departments and programs.
● Onboarding & Orientation: Support the onboarding process for new volunteers, including
preparing welcome materials, scheduling orientations, and sharing key information about
WAWAC’s mission, values, and expectations.
● Volunteer Communication & Engagement: Serve as a warm and accessible point of contact for
volunteers. Help send reminders, updates, and appreciation messages. Assist with planning
volunteer appreciation events and engagement activities.
● Administrative Support: Maintain organized digital and physical files related to volunteer data,
confidentiality agreements, and training materials. Assist in preparing reports on volunteer
engagement and impact.
● Event Support: Assist the Volunteer Coordinator with event logistics where volunteers are
involved, including outreach, set-up coordination, and post-event follow-up.
● Collaboration & Feedback: Work with staff across departments to ensure volunteers are
well-supported in their roles. Help collect feedback from volunteers to inform continuous
improvement efforts.
● Confidentiality & Professionalism: Maintain confidentiality of volunteer information and
support a respectful, inclusive, and affirming environment for all.
● Additional Duties: Assist with other tasks as assigned to support the success of WAWAC’s
volunteer initiatives and broader community engagement goals.

 

For this position, a student should possess the following skills:

welcoming engagement with volunteers, staff, and community members.
● Organizational and administrative efficiency – to assist with volunteer onboarding, scheduling,
and documentation in a dynamic, people-focused environment.
● Reliability and discretion – to manage volunteer information and coordination with
professionalism, care, and respect for confidentiality

 

As a Volunteer Coordinator Assistant, your contributions directly support programs that foster intergenerational connections and strengthen the community. By helping to coordinate and care for our volunteer team, you ensure that individuals who generously give their time are welcomed, prepared, and appreciated. Through thoughtful scheduling, communication, and volunteer engagement, you help create a supportive environment where volunteers feel valued and empowered—ultimately enhancing WAWAC’s ability to deliver impactful programs that
bring together youth, adults, and seniors in a spirit of shared purpose and collective care.

WAWAC is Monday-Friday usually 9am-5pm, After-school program Lynnwood (Wed/Fri 4:30pm-7:00pm), After-school program Federal Way (Tues/Fri 4:30pm-6:30pm). Additionally there are weekend events sometimes Saturdays which are optional for any UW students if they’re available

 

The prime location for planning and implementation of all events shall be at the following address: Washington West African Center ,19203 36th Ave W SUITE 210, Lynnwood, WA 98036. However, where a certain program requires it, a more ideal location shall be sourced. Location There are opportunities both at the Lynwood hub as well as at a new after-school youth program in Renton.
