Air pollution is not uniformly distributed. Major industrial projects are often proposed with little regard for people living nearby. Recently, major increases in coal shipments were proposed in Washington with little knowledge about the impact on residents living near rail lines. Our group has become a resource in the region to understand and document local hot spots of air pollution.

Student Responsibilities

  • Test low-cost sensors against the standard (and expensive) methods.
  • Deploy these low-cost sensors at key field sites around the Puget Sound region.
  • Interpret the data for individuals and local community groups.
