Project Goals : We are examining the use of financial information in executive compensation.
Student Qualifications : Require detail-oriented data collection skills, Have an interest in financial accounting in general and financial accounting research in particular, self-motivated, commitment to fast-paced and intensive data collection tasks.
Student Outcomes : Deep understanding of company’s mandatory disclosure, Thorough understanding of GAAP and Non-GAAP financial measures, learn how to find useful information from public resources, become familiar with qualitative research using public data, tremendous "hand-on research" experiences, and may be eligible for up to 10 independent study credits.
Student Responsibilities : Collect compensation data from company’s disclosure – the proxy statement; and collect the financial data from earnings press release.
Number of Student Positions Available : 5
Time Frame : A one quarter commitment on this research project is required, longer time commitments are preferred. The length of the project depends on student pace and availability. I do not require a fixed number of hours per week but bi-weekly on-line meeting may be necessary to check RA’s progress. I am currently at Hong Kong Polytechnic University so students will be supervised using remote technologies.
