Our focus throughout the course will be on how students may apply their learning in their current or future teaching positions. \u00a0Some of the topics that we?ll address include: Course design models; informal and formal assessment; active learning strategies; teaching inclusively; arts-based teaching practices; and using technology effectively in teaching.<br \/>\nWhile this course is predominantly an interdisciplinary exploration of fundamental practices and pedagogies, students will complete at least one assignment exploring teaching in their own discipline and will be encouraged to follow their own interests throughout.<br \/>\nStudent learning goals:<br \/>\nBecome familiar with and engage the research on Teaching and Learning and identify sources for scholarly research on teaching in your discipline.<br \/>\nBe able to identify key differences across several frameworks and models of learning, specific practices that might be used to implement each framework, and the associated supporting research.<br \/>\nBuild practical skills in planning and implementing active learning strategies, formal and informal assessment of student learning, and promoting an inclusive classroom for all students.<br \/>\nBecome familiar with arts-based teaching practices that promote creative and critical thinking and considerations for teaching effectively with technology.<br \/>\nReflect on and assess your own teaching and plan for your future development as a teacher.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"menu_order":0,"template":"","format":"standard","categories":[47],"class_list":["post-1303","course","type-course","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-archive-courses"],"publishpress_future_action":{"enabled":false,"date":"2026-06-24 02:21:36","action":"change-status","newStatus":"draft","terms":[],"taxonomy":"category","extraData":[]},"publishpress_future_workflow_manual_trigger":{"enabledWorkflows":[]},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/uwcps\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/course\/1303","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/uwcps\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/course"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/uwcps\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/course"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/uwcps\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1303"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/uwcps\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1303"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
