Marx\u00a0casts this problem as a generic one in which history appears twice: \u201cfirst as tragedy, then as farce.\u201d In this course, we&#8217;ll explore these questions of genre and politics in theatrical (and theatrically inflected) representations of the French and Haitian revolutions.
