Signs and Wonders:\u00a0<em>A Melodeklamatsiye<\/em><\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"fusion-responsive-typography-calculated\" style=\"text-align: center;\" data-fontsize=\"22\" data-lineheight=\"28.6px\">Tuesday, May 2, 2023, 7:00 \u2014 9:30 p.m. \u2014 Kane Hall 220 &amp; Walker-Ames Room<\/h4>\n<div class=\"fusion-sep-clear\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Description.\u00a0<\/strong>Drawing on\u00a0<em>melodeclamation<\/em>\u00a0(a 19th-century performance genre combining oration and art music) vocalist, composer and writer Anthony Mordechai Tzvi Russell will investigate disparate elements\u2014Black religiosity, the music of Chopin, queerness, the ambiguities of diaspora\u2014through the mediums of Jewishness and sound in his performance of\u00a0<em>Signs &amp; Wonders: A Melodeklamatsiye<\/em>, in collaboration with Dmitri Gaskin on piano and accordion. The performance will be followed by an interview with Sasha Senderovich, Assistant Professor in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures and the Jackson School of International Studies, University of Washington.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Following the performance,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jewishstudies.washington.edu\/portfolio\/sasha-senderovich\/\">Sasha Senderovich<\/a>, Assistant Professor of Jewish Studies and Slavic Languages and Literatures, will moderate a Q&amp;A session with the audience.
