DRS is happy to consult for more complex situations. The goal is to be able to answer yes to all of the following questions.<\/p>\n<p><b>Syllabus<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Does the\u00a0syllabus have a statement about statement of support for students with disabilities?\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/uwdrs\/faculty\/syllabus-statement\/\">View an example statement of support<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Does the\u00a0syllabus have a clear outline for course content and expectations?<\/li>\n<li>Does the\u00a0syllabus list have a contact for technical assistance?<\/li>\n<li>Does the syllabus list a turnaround time for online communication (i.e. 24 hours response on emails)?<\/li>\n<li>Does the\u00a0syllabus state standards of appropriate communication online?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Documents<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Can text be highlighted, copied, and pasted?<\/li>\n<li>Were headings used?<\/li>\n<li>Were headings used properly so that a heading level was NOT skipped?\n<ul>\n<li>Good: H1, H2, H2, H3, H3, H3, H2, H2<\/li>\n<li>Bad: H1, H3, H3, H2, H5, H4. (for example, H2 was skipped)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Is there sufficient color contrast between text and background colors?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Do images (which offer important information not contained in the text) include text descriptions?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Was the <a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/Check-for-accessibility-issues-a16f6de0-2f39-4a2b-8bd8-5ad801426c7f?ui=en-US&amp;rs=en-US&amp;ad=US\">built-in MS Office Accessibility Checker<\/a> used?<\/li>\n<li>View <a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-US\/article\/Creating-accessible-Word-documents-D9BF3683-87AC-47EA-B91A-78DCACB3C66D\">Creating accessible Word documents\u00a0from Microsoft Office Support<\/a> for more information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>PowerPoint Presentation Slides<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Was the PowerPoint created with a\u00a0template?<\/li>\n<li>Can the order of the text in the presentation be verified in the &#8220;Outline&#8221; panel?<\/li>\n<li>When tabbing, does the cursor move in a logical order if it were read aloud?<\/li>\n<li>Is there sufficient color contrast between text and background colors?<\/li>\n<li>Do images (which offer important information not contained in the text) include text descriptions?<\/li>\n<li>Was the <a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/Check-for-accessibility-issues-a16f6de0-2f39-4a2b-8bd8-5ad801426c7f?ui=en-US&amp;rs=en-US&amp;ad=US\">built-in MS Office Accessibility Checker<\/a> used?<\/li>\n<li>View <a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-US\/article\/Creating-accessible-PowerPoint-presentations-6f7772b2-2f33-4bd2-8ca7-dae3b2b3ef25\">Creating accessible PowerPoint presentations from Microsoft Office Support<\/a> for more information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Excel Workbooks<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Do images (which offer important information not contained in the text) include text descriptions?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Were header rows and column headings specified?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Was the hyperlink text meaningful?<\/li>\n<li>Were merged cells avoided?<\/li>\n<li>Was the <a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/Check-for-accessibility-issues-a16f6de0-2f39-4a2b-8bd8-5ad801426c7f?ui=en-US&amp;rs=en-US&amp;ad=US\">built-in MS Office Accessibility Checker<\/a> used?<\/li>\n<li>View <a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-US\/article\/Creating-accessible-Excel-workbooks-6CC05FC5-1314-48B5-8EB3-683E49B3E593\">Creating accessible Excel workbooks\u00a0from Microsoft Office Support<\/a> for more information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Video and Audio<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Is\u00a0all video content (web, DVD and VHS) captioned?<\/li>\n<li>Are transcripts available for video-based materials that were not able to be captioned?<\/li>\n<li>Are transcripts available for audio-based materials?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>View the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/accessibility\/\">UW Accessibility site<\/a> for more information, specifically the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/accessibility\/checklist\/\">UW IT Accessibility Checklist<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The following checklist is a basic level list to work towards online course content accessibility.
