A resident may explore as many Career Enrichment Pathways as he\/she wishes. Participation in Career Enrichment Pathways is not required and is non-binding (i.e. once in a pathway, a resident can withdraw at any time). Learn more about psychiatry pathways on the <a href=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/psychres\/wordpress\/career-pathways\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UW Psychiatry Resident website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Global Mental Health\/Cultural Psychiatry pathway<\/h3>\n<p>The Global Mental Health\/Cultural Psychiatry pathway will help you to understand globalization and its impact on mental health (with attention to conceptualization of PTSD, anorexia, and ADHD in other cultures), application of novel pharmacological and psycho-social interventions to deliver (inexpensive) care to resource constrained areas, application\/usage of innovative methods for mental health delivery, and the role of US trained physicians on a global platform and the ethics involved with global health work.<\/p>\n<p>Residents who complete the pathway will earn a distinction in Global Mental Health\/Cultural Psychiatry.<\/p>\n<div class=\"accordion \" id=\"components-of-gmhcp-pathway\">\n<div class=\"screen-reader-text\">Components of GMH\/CP pathway<\/div>\n<div class=\"card\">\n<div class=\"card-header\" id=\"accordion-header\">\n<h3 class=\"mb-0\"><button class=\"btn btn-link\" type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse\"><span class=\"btn-text\">Didactics<\/span><span class=\"arrow-box\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span><\/span><\/button><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" role=\"region\">\n<p>Didactics are monthly lectures on various topics in global mental health and cultural psychiatry. Didactics for the GMH\/CP pathway occur on the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">3<sup>rd<\/sup> Thursday of each month, from 12:00PM \u2013 1:00PM<\/span>. The didactic topics are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Introduction to global mental health<\/li>\n<li>Culturally varying conceptualizations<\/li>\n<li>Culturally relevant interventions<\/li>\n<li>Special populations<\/li>\n<li>Structural competency<\/li>\n<li>Models of care, interfacing with multiple stakeholders for sustainable collaborations<\/li>\n<li>Human Rights<\/li>\n<li>Future of global mental health<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Sessions 9 &#8211; 12\u00a0 Experiential learning<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"card\">\n<div class=\"card-header\" id=\"accordion-header\">\n<h3 class=\"mb-0\"><button class=\"btn btn-link\" type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse\"><span class=\"btn-text\">Rotations<\/span><span class=\"arrow-box\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span><\/span><\/button><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" role=\"region\">\n<p>Pathway rotations are elective sites during 3<sup>rd<\/sup> and 4<sup>th<\/sup> year. They include local, regional, and global rotation options.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Local examples: Consejo, International Counseling Services, Asian Counseling and Referral Center<\/li>\n<li>Regional examples: Alaska, Montana and Idaho<\/li>\n<li>Global examples: Kenya, Nepal, Cambodia, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"card\">\n<div class=\"card-header\" id=\"accordion-header\">\n<h3 class=\"mb-0\"><button class=\"btn btn-link\" type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse\"><span class=\"btn-text\">Projects<\/span><span class=\"arrow-box\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span><\/span><\/button><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" role=\"region\">\n<p>Projects occur throughout residency in collaboration with peers, mentors and faculty.
