{"id":1062,"date":"2020-03-06T14:21:18","date_gmt":"2020-03-06T22:21:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/uwgrad\/?p=1062"},"modified":"2020-03-06T14:21:18","modified_gmt":"2020-03-06T22:21:18","slug":"toefl-mybest-scores-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/uwgrad\/2020\/03\/toefl-mybest-scores-update\/","title":{"rendered":"TOEFL MyBest Scores Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We have\u00a0important updates\u00a0for you regarding the TOEFL test\u00a0to demonstrate\u00a0English proficiency:\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The UW Student Database (SDB) and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">MyGradProgram<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0(MGP)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0now<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">show<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0a new test<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0type\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">called \u201cTOEFL <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ets.org\/s\/toefl\/pdf\/mybest_su.pdf\">MyBest<\/a><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.&#8221;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">These are the highest section scores from all valid TOEFL test dates.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>The total score for MyBest displays as \u201cTOEFLB\u201d; the total score for TOEFLibt displays as TOEFLI.<\/li>\n<li>In MGP Graduate Applicant Detail page, the Academic English flag (<em>AEP Required<\/em>?) is updating to \u201cSatisfied\u201d if a student earns a 92 or above TOEFLB score.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/grad.uw.edu\/policies-procedures\/graduate-school-memoranda\/memo-15-conditions-of-appointment-for-tas-who-are-not-native-speakers-of-english\/\">Teaching Assistant<\/a>\u00a0flag (<em>Cleared to Teach<\/em>?) is updating to \u201cSatisfied\u201d if a student has a 26 or above on the speaking section of TOEFL MyBest (TOEFBS).<\/li>\n<li>The English Proficiency Test table on <a href=\"https:\/\/grad.uw.edu\/admissions\/understanding-the-application-process\/#Minimum%20Admissions%20Requirements\">Understanding the Application Process<\/a> has been updated to indicate that the Graduate School accepts TOEFL MyBest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Departmental Actions Required: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If your\u00a0<span data-contrast=\"auto\">program\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">chooses to accept TOEFL\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><em>MyBest<\/em><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<span data-contrast=\"auto\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">cores<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, no action<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0is<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0required.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li>If your program does not\u00a0<span data-contrast=\"none\">choose\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">to accept\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">TOEFL\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"><em>MyBest<\/em><\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0scores,\u00a0<span data-contrast=\"none\">you should<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0update your application (<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">unit\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">profile) to indicate this.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li>We have added this sentence to the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/grad.uw.edu\/admissions\/understanding-the-application-process\/#Minimum%20Admissions%20Requirements\">English Proficiency<\/a>\u201d section: \u201cAdditionally, some programs may not accept MyBest Scores. Please check with graduate programs to confirm their requirements:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/grad.uw.edu\/admissions\/find-a-program\/\">select a graduate program<\/a>.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nBackground on TOEFL MyBest Scores: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In August 2019, ETS, the testing organization for TOEFL, began offering a new set of scores on the TOEFLibt called MyBest Scores. According to ETS, \u201cMyBest scores \u2014 sometimes generically referred to as superscores \u2014 are the highest scores on each section (Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing) from all of the test taker\u2019s valid TOEFL iBT test scores from tests taken in the last two years, and a total score that is the sum of the MyBest section scores.
