These are extraordinary times, and we acknowledge it has been an extremely difficult period for all of us. To be responsive to the needs of students, especially those students who are members of the Black community, we want to support instructors making accommodations. Therefore, all students will receive<\/strong> a two-week extension<\/strong> to complete all degree requirements and still graduate Spring Quarter 2020.<\/p>\n

Students\u00a0graduating Spring Quarter 2020<\/a> must complete all degree requirements (final assignments, final projects, capstones,\u00a0submission of thesis\/dissertation, etc.) on<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0before<\/em>\u00a0Friday, June 26, 2020<\/strong>. No petitions are required and there is no fee associated with this extension. Students who cannot complete all degree requirements by Friday, June 26 will graduate Summer Quarter 2020. (Master\u2019s degree students must submit a new Master\u2019s Degree Request<\/a> for Summer Quarter 2020.)<\/p>\n

Students are still encouraged to complete all degree requirements by the last day of the quarter, Friday, June 12^{th<\/sup> <\/strong>for priority graduation. GPAs\/GPCs are also encouraged to recommend graduation by June 17^{th<\/sup> for priority graduation. GEMS will begin graduating students on June 17^{th<\/sup> per usual practice.<\/p>\n}}}

Please use the following checklist to assist GEMS in providing a quick and successful graduation for your students:<\/p>\n

Checklist<\/strong><\/p>\n

Before you recommend a student for graduation in MyGrad, verify the following:<\/em><\/p>\n

\n
the master\u2019s degree request indicates the correct degree code; contact GEMS if the degree code is incorrect<\/li>\n
department contingencies have been cleared<\/li>\n
petitions, if necessary, have been submitted\u00a0and<\/em>\u00a0approved by GEMS<\/li>\n
required courses have grades appearing on the degree audit<\/li>\n
all requirements appear\u00a0OK<\/strong>\u00a0(satisfied) on the degree audit (see exceptions under Requirement Status on Degree Audit<\/strong><\/span> in the below section)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
current quarter grades have posted to the transcript<\/li>\n
the warrant has been printed; see MGP Help<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Requirement Status on Degree Audit<\/span><\/h2>\n
The Degree Audit is color-coded to help you quickly identify the status of requirements:<\/p>\n
IP<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 The requirement is satisfied when the current or in-progress courses are completed.
\nNO<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The requirement has not been satisfied.
\nOK<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The requirement has been satisfied.<\/p>\n
You can run the Degree Audit from the Student Detail Page in MGP to verify that\u00a0all<\/strong>\u00a0requirements appear\u00a0OK<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>with a few exceptions:<\/p>\n
The following requirements will always appear as\u00a0NO<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>because they are satisfied by GEMS during graduation processing:<\/p>\n

Thesis accepted by the Graduate School<\/li>\n
Thesis written in English<\/li>\n
Dissertation accepted by the Graduate School<\/li>\n
Dissertation written in English<\/li>\n
Registered as a graduate student the quarter the Final Exam is taken<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
The following requirement will appear as\u00a0NO<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0if the student is paying the\u00a0Graduate Registration Waiver Fee<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Maintain registration as a graduate student through the end of the quarter in which the degree is conferred<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
All<\/strong>\u00a0other requirements should appear\u00a0OK<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0before you recommend graduation in MyGrad.<\/p>\n

Examine the\u00a0IP<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0requirements closely. Sometimes grades are missing for required courses taken in previous quarters\/years.<\/li>\n
