{"id":1115,"date":"2020-11-25T09:24:39","date_gmt":"2020-11-25T17:24:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/uwgrad\/?p=1115"},"modified":"2020-11-25T09:24:39","modified_gmt":"2020-11-25T17:24:39","slug":"additional-english-updates-duolingo-and-medium-of-instruction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/uwgrad\/2020\/11\/additional-english-updates-duolingo-and-medium-of-instruction\/","title":{"rendered":"Additional English Updates: Duolingo and Medium of Instruction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following up on our November 20 <a href=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/uwgrad\/2020\/11\/english-language-admissions-updates\/\">blog post<\/a>, GEMS is pleased to announce additional updates to assist you during the 2021 admissions cycle:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duolingo English Test:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The graduate school application&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/grad.uw.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/GraduateSchoolApplication_EnglishProficiency.jpg\">English proficiency question<\/a> is revised to read &#8220;Official Test Scores&#8221; instead of &#8220;Official Test Scores (TOEFL\/IELTS).&#8221; Applicants who are using Duolingo should select &#8220;Official Test Scores.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>The graduate school application&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/grad.uw.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/Application_ReportEnglishScores.jpg\">Report English Proficiency Test Scores<\/a>&#8221; section now has Duolingo as a test type option.\u00a0Applicants can self-report their Duolingo scores, which graduate program advisors can see in the submitted application&#8217;s &#8220;Tests&#8221; section.<\/li>\n<li>If your applicants have questions, please refer them to the <a href=\"https:\/\/grad.uw.edu\/admission\/covid-19-admissions-faqs\/#English%20Proficiency%20Requirement:%20Duolingo\">COVID-19 Admissions FAQ: Duolingo<\/a>\u00a0section.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Medium of Instruction Letter:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicants can now upload their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/grad.uw.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/MOI_Student_View-scaled.jpg\">Medium of Instruction letter<\/a>\u00a0(if they indicate they will demonstrate English in this manner).<\/li>\n<li>Program advisors can view this uploaded letter\u00a0in the graduate applicant detail page, <a href=\"https:\/\/grad.uw.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/GraduateApplicantDetail_English.jpg\">English proficiency section<\/a>.
