{"id":1144,"date":"2021-03-16T10:33:46","date_gmt":"2021-03-16T18:33:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/uwgrad\/?p=1144"},"modified":"2021-03-16T10:33:46","modified_gmt":"2021-03-16T18:33:46","slug":"winter-2021-graduation-and-two-week-extension","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/uwgrad\/2021\/03\/winter-2021-graduation-and-two-week-extension\/","title":{"rendered":"Winter 2021 Graduation and Two-Week Extension"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ETD Extension<\/strong><br \/>\nFrom the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/grad.uw.edu\/policies-procedures\/general-graduate-student-policies\/graduate-registration-waiver-fee\/\">Graduate Registration Fee Waiver<\/a>\u00a0page:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The Graduate School is allowing a two-week extension for\u00a0Winter 2021 for the submission of\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/grad.uw.edu\/for-students-and-post-docs\/thesisdissertation\/\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">electronic theses \/ dissertations<\/span>\u00a0<\/a>(ETDs).<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Students who are registered for\u00a0winter quarter, have submitted a\u00a0<span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/webapps.grad.uw.edu\/student\/mastapp.aspx\">Master\u2019s Degree Request<\/a><\/span>\u00a0for\u00a0winter quarter or passed their Final Exam during winter quarter, and submit their ETD by\u00a0April 2nd will be graduated Winter 2021.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">These students are not required to pay the $250 Graduate Registration Waiver Fee.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Students who are registered\u00a0Winter 2021 and have already paid the $250 Graduate Registration Waiver Fee will receive a refund.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This two-week extension applies only to the ETD submission for\u00a0Winter 2021. All other\u00a0<span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/grad.uw.edu\/for-students-and-post-docs\/degree-requirements\/dates-and-deadlines\/\">Dates and Deadlines<\/a><\/span>\u00a0for Winter 2021 are unchanged.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Any student who submits their ETD after\u00a0April 2nd must register for\u00a0Spring 2021.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Winter 2021\u00a0Graduation Timeline:<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students submitting ETDs are still encouraged to complete all degree requirements by the last day of the quarter,\u00a0Friday, March 19th\u00a0for priority graduation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>GPAs\/GPCs are also encouraged to recommend graduation by Wednesday,\u00a0March 24th for priority graduation.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Please note: GPAs &amp; GPCs do not need to wait for a student&#8217;s ETD to be submitted before recommending graduation. GEMS will verify ETD submission during graduation processing.<\/li>\n<li>GEMS will begin graduating students on Wednesday,\u00a0March 24th per usual practice.<\/li>\n<li>New advisors may find our\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/grad.uw.edu\/for-faculty-and-staff\/gpa-gpc-resources\/#Training\">Graduation Training for Graduate Advisors\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0(webinar &amp; PDF)\u00a0<\/em>helpful.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please use the following checklist to assist GEMS in providing a quick and successful graduation for your students:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Checklist<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Before you recommend a student for graduation in MyGrad, verify the following:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the master\u2019s degree request indicates the correct degree code; contact GEMS if the degree code is incorrect<\/li>\n<li>department contingencies have been cleared<\/li>\n<li>petitions, if necessary, have been submitted\u00a0<em>and<\/em>\u00a0approved by GEMS<\/li>\n<li>required courses have grades appearing on the degree audit<\/li>\n<li>all requirements appear\u00a0<strong>OK<\/strong>\u00a0(satisfied) on the degree audit (see exceptions under\u00a0<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Requirement Status on Degree Audit<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0in the below section)<\/li>\n<li>current quarter grades have posted to the transcript<\/li>\n<li>the warrant has been printed; see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/webapps.grad.uw.edu\/mgp-dept\/instruct\/printwarrants.asp\">MGP Help<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Deadlines<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 March 23:<\/strong>\u00a0Per UW Registrar Office, grades due from faculty at 5 p.m. via GradeBook\/GradePage<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 March 24:\u00a0<\/strong>Graduation recommendations due from GPAs\/GPCs at 5 p.m. via MyGrad for\u00a0<em>priority<\/em>\u00a0graduation<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 April 5:<\/strong> Graduation recommendations due from GPAs\/GPCs at 5 p.m. via MyGrad<\/p>\n<p>If you are unable to make all recommendations by\u00a0Monday<strong>,\u00a0April 5 at<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>5 p.m.,<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0email GEMS at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:gemshelp@uw.edu\">gemshelp@uw.edu<\/a>\u00a0with the student\u2019s name and student number.<\/p>\n<p>As always, thank you for your support in providing graduate students with a positive UW experience.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Requirement Status on Degree Audit<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Degree Audit is color-coded to help you quickly identify the status of requirements:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\">IP<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 The requirement is satisfied when the current or in-progress courses are completed.<br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">NO<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The requirement has not been satisfied.<br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">OK<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The requirement has been satisfied.<\/p>\n<p>You can run the Degree Audit from the Student Detail Page in MGP to verify that\u00a0<strong>all<\/strong>\u00a0requirements appear\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">OK<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>with a few exceptions:<\/p>\n<p>The following requirements will always appear as\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">NO<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>because they are satisfied by GEMS during graduation processing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thesis accepted by the Graduate School<\/li>\n<li>Thesis written in English<\/li>\n<li>Dissertation accepted by the Graduate School<\/li>\n<li>Dissertation written in English<\/li>\n<li>Registered as a graduate student the quarter the Final Exam is taken<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The following requirement will appear as\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">NO<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0if the student is paying the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/grad.uw.edu\/policies-procedures\/general-graduate-student-policies\/graduate-registration-waiver-fee\/\">Graduate Registration Waiver Fee<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintain registration as a graduate student through the end of the quarter in which the degree is conferred<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>All<\/strong>\u00a0other requirements should appear\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">OK<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0before you recommend graduation in MyGrad.<\/p>\n<h2>Degree Audit Tips<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Examine the\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\">IP<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0requirements closely. Sometimes grades are missing for required courses taken in previous quarters\/years.<\/li>\n<li>Do not recommend graduation if an\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\">IP<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0course is a required course.
