{"id":1149,"date":"2021-04-20T16:10:18","date_gmt":"2021-04-21T00:10:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/uwgrad\/?p=1149"},"modified":"2021-04-20T16:10:18","modified_gmt":"2021-04-21T00:10:18","slug":"spring-2021-graduation-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/uwgrad\/2021\/04\/spring-2021-graduation-updates\/","title":{"rendered":"Spring 2021 Graduation Updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GEMS would like to share some new updates with GPAs and GPCs as you prepare for Spring graduation:<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Master&#8217;s Degree Code Correction Process\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>In previous quarters, GEMS has instructed departments to contact GEMS if the master&#8217;s degree code is incorrect on the master&#8217;s request. GEMS has\u00a0needed to hold\u00a0these master&#8217;s requests for manual processing with the Registrar&#8217;s\u00a0Graduation and Academic Records (GARS) unit at the end of the quarter.<\/p>\n<p>CAIR has made improvements to the upload process into the student database (SDB), which means it is no longer necessary for GEMS to process the degree code correction at the end of the quarter. Departments simply need to enter a departmental comment on the Master&#8217;s Request before recommending the student for graduation, such as &#8220;<strong>ATTN GEMS: Update Degree code to MUSIC-20-25.<\/strong>&#8221; With this new process, GEMS can correct the code, then return to the record the next day to process and approve the graduation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/grad.uw.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/Master_Request_Dept_Comment.jpg\">Sample Master&#8217;s Request Correction<\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Student Petition: Extend Time Limit\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The two petition types related to time limits (<a href=\"https:\/\/grad.uw.edu\/policies-procedures\/masters-degree-policies\/masters-degree-requirements\/\">six years<\/a>\u00a0for a Master&#8217;s; <a href=\"https:\/\/grad.uw.edu\/policies-procedures\/doctoral-degree-policies\/doctoral-degree-requirements\/\">ten years<\/a>\u00a0for PhD) have been removed from MyGrad Student Petition Types. More information is on the <a href=\"https:\/\/grad.uw.edu\/policies-procedures\/general-graduate-student-policies\/graduate-registration-waiver-fee\/\">Graduate Registration Waiver Fee<\/a> page.
