Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL)
Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) is a virtual exchange pedagogy in which courses are shared between international university partners, with instructors from both institutions co-teaching students from both institutions. Courses use synchronous and asynchronous technologies to foster international learning environments. COIL courses offer a global learning opportunity without the costs of travel required for traditional study abroad programs. COIL courses present a unique opportunity for language learning courses, with instruction primarily in the language used by the partner institution, on a wide variety of course content, including topics in STEM, the social sciences, or other fields. This is a fantastic opportunity for higher level language students and heritage language learners to explore advanced topics not currently offered at UW and build international friendships.
